about

The Cubical Live in Oslo - Halfpenny Records

After a month long tour of Europe, The Cubical arrived dishevelled, beaten, battered and bruised in Oslo, Norway (familiar territory and the scene of many a wild old night for the band) for the last show of the run. The resultant gig at Gamla, a delightful building built in 1699 of oak beams and such, found the lads in such confident swagger with their unique brand of swamp-garage –rock n roll-blues that even the grooviest Scandinavian hipster simply could not resist. With the band banging out their classics, making songs up on the spot (two completely spontaneous creations feature), taking the piss out of each other and the crowd in equal measure, and singing songs IN BETWEEN songs, those present witnessed all the ingredients which have made The Cubical such a successful and entertaining live act over the last half decade or so. By the end of the set the crowd had been whipped into such a frenzy that they were positively begging for more. The band duly responded with a four song encore that shook the old building to its very foundations. Unbeknownst to the Liverpool fivesome, the sagely soundman had had the foresight to record the whole thing. What was captured is The Cubical at their frantic, chaotic, hypnotic, brilliant best.
